History of our Lodge

          1960

January 12th, motion made and seconded to form a Fellowcraft Club.  Committee appointed to form this club: Dan Preston, Russell Crawford and O. U. Moore Jr.
February 9th, motion made and seconded to hire lodge cleaned 2 times each month at $5 per month.  If Order of the Eastern Star would pay half, the lodge would be cleaned each
Wednesday before the Eastern Star Meeting.  Motion made to purchase the water cooler from Brother Owen for $30 and also pay him for the fittings.
February 23rd, motion made and seconded to sell the old water cooler for $5 to Brother Frank Owen.
May 1st, a call communication for the purpose of paying the last respect and burial of Brother Phillip Otis Bass who died May 1st, 1960.  Graveside services were conducted by Brother Adell McCullough.
May 10th, motion made and seconded to purchase screens for the upstairs of the lodge.
June 14th, motion made and seconded to purchase paint and paint the trim around the top of the building.
July 26th, motion made and seconded to hang pictures of Past Masters on the Wall of the lodge hall.  Past Masters to be notified to have their pictures made.
September 11th, a called communication to pay our last respects and burial of Brother Claude Tobey.  Graveside services were held at West View Cemetery with Brother J. F. Johnson conducting the ceremony.
October 11th, motion made, seconded and carried that dues be raised from $10 to $15.
Motion made, seconded to let the Eastern Star hand drapes on the lodge windows.
Motion made, seconded to sell lot on the north side of lodge.  Amendment made to let Worshipful Master and Wardens handle the sale of the lot.  Motion carried to sell lot for $1000.
November 8th, motion made and seconded to have open installation of officers for 1961 and the secretary to contact the Grand Master and ask him to install the officers.
November 22, the W.M. appointed a committee to investigate the application for admission to the Scottish Rite Hospital for Crippled Children for Arleen Quenns Duke of McDonough.
December 13th, motion made and seconded that the W.M. and Secretary make plans to get the Duke child in Hospital.  This being the last meeting of the year, officers for 1961 were elected/appointed as follows:

December 16th, There was an open installation of officers for 1961.  The Grand Secretary, Brother Daniel W. Locklin was the installing officer.

January 10th, the officers not installed at the December 16th meeting were installed.  Brother Frank Owen acted as the Deputy Grand Master and P.M. Brother Cecil Love acted as the Deputy Grand Marshall. The lodge voted to rent the downstairs of the lodge for a dancing school 2 nights a week.  Motion made and seconded that the lodge purchase one dozen aprons and tubes.  Two brothers appointed to find some sort of stairway covering to go on the stairs to keep out sand on the floors.
April 11th, motion made & seconded to permit the Order of the Eastern Star discontinue paying rent until further notice.  Motion made to let the OES upholster chairs and refinish furniture as requested.
April 25th, motion made & seconded to put Cokes in the refrigerator on the honor system.
June 13th, motion made & seconded to purchase 2dozen books of the Lodge System of Masonic Education.
August 8th, motion made & seconded to let Brother Henry Wilkinson to build sign to install in front of lodge.
October 10th, motion made & seconded to reconsider the consent the lodge gave the Eastern Star to refinish all furniture in lodge hall.
November 14th, motion made & seconded to put the Eastern Star Emblem on the sign.
December 12th, being the last meeting of the year elected/appointed the following officers for 1962 and a motion was made & seconded to have a public installation on December 29th:

January 16th, Called communication for the purpose of paying our last respect and burial of Brother Dewey Webb Copeland who died January 15th 1962. Graveside services were held at Stockbridge Cemetery with Brother J. F. Johnson conducting the ceremony.
January 19th, a called communication for the purpose of paying our last respect and burial of Brother Earnest Alexander Sentell who died January 17,1962. Graveside services were held at Stockbridge Cemetery with Brother J. F. Johnson conducting the ceremony.
January 25th, a called communication for the purpose of paying our last respect and burial of Brother William Franklin Helms who passed away on January 23, 1962. Graveside services were held at Stockbridge Cemetery with Brother Adell McCullough conducting the ceremony.
March 27th, a motion was made & seconded to put a new commode in the men's rest room.
May 22, a motion was made & seconded to install a unit surfeshint to cool and heat the upstairs of the lodge.  Amendment was made to secure bids from 3 companies.
June 12, motion was made & seconded to install the $2800 air conditioner & heating unit by Newberry Air Conditioners.
November 13, it was reported that the lodge sign will be installed by the next meeting.
December 11th, being the last meeting of the year, the following officers were elected/appointed for the year 1963:

January 5th, a called open communication to install officers for 1963.
January 8th, motion made and seconded to have roof of lodge repaired.  Also a motion made and seconded to order 12 code supplements.
January 22, a motion made & seconded to pay $25 to Marget McGee for painting the
Masonic sign.
February 6th, called communication to pay last respects and burial of Brother William Bryan Moseley who passed away on February 4th, 1963. Graveside services were held at Burks Cemetery with Brother J. T. Roberts conducting the ceremony.
March 25th, motion made & seconded to purchase 50 aprons. 
April 23rd, motion made & seconded for the lodge and the OES to share all expenses on cokes, coffee, cups, napkins, sugar, etc used on regular meeting nights.
June 11th, motion made & seconded to get a refrigerator to replace the one downstairs which had gone bad.
July 23rd, motion made & seconded for OES to hang sign below the Masonic sign outside.  Also for the OES to hang the OES star in the East.
August 3rd, motion made and seconded to buy 100 seats for the lodge at a cost of $1.25 each for a total of $125.00.  Motion M&S to appoint a committee to get members to donate to pay for seats.
August 27th, motion M&S for the Secretary to purchase the necessary items to install the new lodge seats. Another motion M&S for the lodge to tell the county to discontinue the use of the lodge halls for the giving of shots.
December 10th, being the last meeting of the year the following officers were elected/appointed for the year 1964:

February 25th, motion M&S and approved that Brother Henry Wilkerson make six(6) table frames (?).  This would in turn pay his lodge dues for 2 years.
March 24th, motion M&S for the Worshipful Master purchase 100 bowls at 10 cents each to be used in the kitchen.
July 28th, The acting Secretary announced that Brother Claude M. Turner died on July 21, 1964.
September 8th, it was reported that a contractor is to start work on repairing the roof.  There is a 20 year guarantee. Cost $710.
November 8th, called communication for the purpose of paying our last respects and burial of Brother William Edward Black who passed away on November 6th, 1964. Graveside services were held at Westview Cemetary with Brother J. T. Roberts conducting the ceremonies.
December 8th being the last meeting of the year, the officers for 1965 were elected/appointed.  These being:

March 9th, Motion M&S and voted on by lodge that $60.00 be paid to city of Stockbridge
Have sewage line run to lodge.
May 25th, a committee was formed to get recommendations and make plans to build an extension on lodge kitchen.
July 13th, motion M&S and voted on to purchase shelf board to hang Past Master pictures on. A committee appointed to make plans for a Past Masters Night.
August 10th, motion M&S to purchase 15 picture frames at approximately $1.00 each.
November 5th, a called communication to pay our last respect and burial of Brother William Jackson Lee who passed away on November 3rd.  Burial was at Burks Cemetery with Brother J. T. Roberts conducting the ceremony.
December 14th being the last meeting of the year, officers for 1966 elected/appointed were:

January 25th, 1966, motion made and seconded to use plastic name plates on the Past Masters pictures.
February 22nd, 1966, motion made and seconded to discontinue free drinks at our regular meetings and until voted, otherwise to be ten cents.  Motion made and seconded for the lodge to not pay for the coffee, cream, sugar and cups.
March 22nd, 1966, a request was made from the City of Stockbridge to buy 20 feet of the lodge property next to city hall or be given permission to drive the city trucks across the lodge property to a garage they were going to build behind the lodge.  Motion made and seconded not to grant this request.  Motion made and seconded for Brother Chritezberg to blow his horn 15 minutes before each meeting.
May 10th, 1966, motion made and seconded that if the Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Wife or Child of a member of Stockbridge Lodge 691 should die, the lodge would send flowers and pay for them out of the flower fund.
June 14th, 1966, motion made and seconded and voted on by lodge to sell freezer for $15.00.  Motion made and seconded and voted by lodge to lay cornerstone of Mt. Carmel Road Baptist Church.  Date not set.
July 3rd, 1966, a called communication to pay the last respects and burial of Brother Harvey Dee Evans who died July 1st, 1966.  Graveside services was conducted at Forest Hills Cemetery by Stockbridge Lodge 691 with W. B. J. T. Roberts conducting the ceremony.
July 26th, 1966, letter read from Grand Master of Georgia Rupert H. Bramblett, stating that if they had any members raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason more than 45 days ago and who have not done so, must demonstrate proficiency to the Master's Obligation.
August 9th, 1966, motion made, seconded and voted on by lodge to permit Fraternal Lodge #37, McDonough use Stockbridge facilities until they could build a lodge or find a suitable place to hold meetings.
September 13,1966, motion made, seconded and voted by lodge to have a telephone installed in the lodge.  The bill to be paid by donations from members of Stockbridge Lodge.
December 13th, 1966, being the last meeting of the year, elections of officers for 1967 were held.  The following brethren were elected/appointed:

February 14th, 1967, election held to fill the vacancy of James Carter who resigned as Secretary.  Brother Bill Hinton was elected and installed.
February 28th, 1967, motion made, seconded and voted on by lodge to have treasurer open a checking account at First State Bank, Stockbridge, Ga.
April 11th, 1967, Brother Orlin Brasfield stated he would install gutter on the Kitchen Addition.
July 11th, 1967, Brother John Berry brought a gift from________________to be used as a alter cloth and was given as a gift to the lodge.
September 19th, 1967, a called communication for the purpose of paying our last tribute of respect and burying of Brother LeRoy Andrews.  Graveside ceremony conducted by W. B. J. T. Roberts.
December 12th, 1967, being the last meeting of the year, officers for 1968 were elected/appointed as follows:

January 23rd, 1968, The Worshipful Master gave a short talk on Masonic Conduct and that profane language and drinking on lodge property would not be tolerated.
February 13th, 1968, letter read from City of Stockbridge to place a gas tank on lodge property next to the city hall building.  This was tabled until next regular communication.
February 27th, 1968, a motion was made, seconded and carried that the Worshipful Master and Wardens be given the authority to give a easement deed to the City of Stockbridge for enough land to bury a gas tank and erect a pump adjacent to the city hall building with the stipulation that it be removed in 30 days if the lodge request it.
March 12th, 1968, Worshipful Master reported that easement deed to city of Stockbridge had been signed.
July 9th, 1968, communication was read from Masonic Home of Georgia that furniture in Junior and intermediate boys was in bad condition and repair was cost prohibitive.  The Home made a request for any lodge wishing to could furnish ½ room for about $178 and a whole room for about $356.  Motion made and seconded and carried that Stockbridge Lodge furnish a whole room. Masonic home also said that a brass plate would be placed in the room with the donor's name on it.
October 24th, 1968, called communication for the purpose of paying our last respects for departed Brother William Ishmael Walker.  Brother Walker was laid to rest in Stockbridge City Cemetery.  Ceremony was conducted by Brother Johnson.
November 26th, 1968, a motion was made, seconded and carried to accept an offer from the Eastern Star to pay $100 on freezer-refrigerator if lodge would pay balance of $35.
December 10th, 1968, being the last meeting of the year, elections of officers for 1969 were held.  The following brothers were elected/appointed for the following year:

January 28th, 1969, it was announced that the mortgage of the building was paid in full.  Celebration to be held later.
February 25, 1969, motion made, seconded and carried to have the burning of the mortgage on the 1st Saturday in April.  This date selected as it is near the time of the month when the 1st meeting was held, and the dedication and cornerstone laying.
April 8th, 1969, the Junior Warden, Herbert Rice offered to contribute $100 toward the purchase of a screen, projector and slides for the Fellowcraft Degree.  Motion made, seconded and carried that Worshipful Brother J. D. Akins investigate the purchase of the above and if satisfactory, to proceed with the purchase.
May 9th, 1969, the lodge was presented with two (2) beautiful framed poems by Brother John Heflin.
May 13th, 1969, it was reported that the projector and screen were purchased.
July 8th, 1969, the lodge was presented an ash tray made by the wife of the Worshipful Master.
December 9th, 1969, being the last communication of the year, the following brothers were elected/appointed as officers of the year 1970:
