STOCKBRIDGE
LODGE #691 F&AM
On
April 8, 1948, a called communication was held. The Grand
Secretary, Brother Daniel W. Locklin presented this lodge with a
dispensation to work under the Grand Lodge of Georgia until the lodge
could be constituted. The lodge began its membership with a total
of thirty-seven (37) members. Their name and lodge numbers are as

On
the following Tuesday night, April 13, 1948, at a called communication,
it was decided to hold lodge meetings on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday night
of each month and the lodge was to be Stockbridge Lodge, UD until the
Grand Lodge could meet. At a previous meeting (4/8/48?) Frank Owen
was named Worshipful Master, J. O. Cowen was named Senior Warden; Fred
Grant was named Junior Warden; and J. R, Lewis Secretary. The
following brothers were appointed as follows: Walter Mays-Treasurer, J.
A. Berry-Senior Deacon, R. J. Lee-Junior Deacon, Herbert Harrell-Senior
Steward, Frank Carver-Junior Steward, R. E. Lee-Tyler.
The
lodge voted to purchase a Bucket and a Dipper. A letter of thanks
was to be written to Rex Lodge #251 thanking them for support and the
donation of 50 Chairs. During the May 11th meeting, bills were
paid for cloth for aprons, and for 5 pair of pajamas. June 8th, a
bill for $42.98 for a electric fan, and $1.10 for rope.
During
the regular communication of August 24, 1948, a committee was appointed
to draw up by-laws for Stockbridge Lodge 691 to present to the Grand
Lodge in October. The by-laws were presented to the lodge on
September 14, 1948 and were approved. Brother Herbert Harrell
presented a canvas to be used by the lodge. On September 28, 1948,
the by-laws were read for the second time, ballot was spread and the
by-laws passed. The November 9th, 1948 meeting a bill was ordered
paid for two (2) gas heaters and copper tubing and fittings. At
the December 14th, 1948 communication, Brother John Duffy of Rex Lodge
#251 presented Stockbridge Lodge #691 with a Compass, Square and Trowel,
which he had made. Motion made that the Initials of Brother Duffy
be inscribed on each piece. At a called communication on December
28, 1948, the Most Worshipful Grand Master E. Russell Moulton proceeded
to elect a body to represent the Grand Lodge. After the grant of the
charter, the Grand Master consecrated, dedicated and constituted the
lodge, which was to be known as Stockbridge Lodge #691 F&AM.

At
the January 12th meeting, a Building Committee was appointed by the W.M.
At the June 14th meeting, The Lambskin Aprons of which we have long been
waiting on were issued to several new members.
July
12th meeting, it was decided to make plans for the lodge future. A
committee was appointed to investigate the building of a new lodge, to
contact the Garden Club to see if they would be interested in going in
with the lodge and to see if anyone was interested in donating or
selling a desirable lot and to report back to the lodge at the next
meeting. (No information was found in the next meeting minutes
indicating the finding of the committee).
At
the October 11th meeting, it was reported that on August 31, 1948 there
were 42 members. As of August 31, 1949 membership was 53.
At
the November 8th, meeting, the building committee reported that Perry
Foster was interested in erecting a lodge building. Members were
mailed letters asking them to attend the next meeting to work out a plan
to go in with Perry Foster in the erection of the lodge.
It
was voted at the November 22nd meeting that the meeting night after
Christmas be omitted. It was also voted that the election of
officers to be held the 2nd Tuesday in December and the officers
installed that night. Officers elected and/or appointed for the
